Stop Slop is a browser extension that hides the YouTube channels and the Facebook pages, profiles and groups you block. This page covers the data that the extension and the stopslop.omelet.tech website handle.
What stays on your computer
- Your block list, your exceptions, the lists you follow, your settings and the count of hidden items live in your browser's extension storage.
- Stop Slop reads the YouTube and Facebook pages you open only to find channel, page and author links, and to hide the ones you blocked. It does not record what you watch or read, and it does not send page content to any server.
Requests the extension makes
- When you block by link or from a video, the extension loads the public YouTube channel page or YouTube's oEmbed endpoint to look up the channel ID, name and picture. These requests carry no cookies.
- When you block a Facebook page by link, the extension may load that page on facebook.com with your Facebook session, the same way opening it in a tab would, to read its numeric ID.
- When you browse or subscribe to shared lists, the extension reads them from our database. This works without signing in.
If you sign in
Signing in with Google is optional. We use Firebase Authentication and receive your Google account ID, name, email address and profile photo. Our servers store:
- your block list and exceptions, so they sync between browsers;
- the lists you follow;
- the lists you create, the entries you add and the suggestions you send. Other people see your Google name and photo next to them: a list shows its owner and maintainers, an entry shows who added it, and maintainers see who sent a suggestion;
- reports you send about a list, linked to your account;
- counters we use to limit abuse, which expire within a day.
Your email address is never shown to other users. We do not sell data, show ads or share data with anyone other than the provider below.
Service provider
Google Firebase (Authentication, Cloud Firestore, Cloud Functions and Hosting) runs the backend. The database and functions run in Google Cloud's asia-southeast1 region (Singapore), and Google processes the data under its own terms.
Deleting your data
- Uninstalling the extension deletes everything it stored in your browser.
- In the extension dashboard, Settings > Delete my data removes your synced blocks, subscriptions and profile from our servers. Lists you own pass to another maintainer, or we delete them if there is none. Entries you added to lists run by other people stay, without your name.
- Firebase Authentication keeps a sign-in record with your account ID and email. To have it removed, contact us through the support link on the Stop Slop page in the Chrome Web Store.
Children
Stop Slop is not meant for children under 13.
Changes
When the way we handle data changes, we update this page and the date at the top.
